Welcome to this review of the Breville BKC700XL. Over the course of this review I will attempt to inform you the reader of the plusses and minuses of this machine and hopefully allow you to reach a point where you can confidently decide whether this coffee maker is for you or not.
The unit is functionally identical to the Keurig B70 platinum, and except for a few additional features on this machine and the outward appearance there are no real differences. I would like to start the review by going over the additional features on the Breville. It has a storage bin for the K-cups.. this was something that always irritated me about the Keurig, nowhere to place the k-cups. It has an additional cup size; it now includes a 4oz cup size which is ideal for making espressos. There is also storage on top of the machine for the measuring scoop and reusable filter.
One other difference that people will notice between this and the Keurig B70 is the price, and at an additional 90 dollars, one really can begin to question whether that extra cash is worth it. One of the best things about this machine compared to the Keurig is the noise level. While the Keurig makes a serious amount of noise while its pumping, an almost intolerable amount of noise, the Breville unit is comparatively quiet. This is definitely a feature I would be interested in if I was considering the two as alternatives. Anybody you makes coffee frequently with a hangover might well want to consider this model. There is also the ice dispenser which while seemingly an unnecessary function can be made good use of during the summer months, you all know you switch to iced coffee when the temperature gets into the 80’s.
I would also recommend caution when using the machine on the 9.25 ounce setting, if you are using a regular k-cup then switching from 7.25 to 9.25 will dilute the coffee a little. I would advise that if you prefer your coffee stronger than the average then switching from the regular k-cup to the bold k-cup might be an idea for you. Or if you are brewing into a travel mug, then I might recommend using 2 regular pods on the 5.25 setting.
