Hello and welcome to yet another Bunn Coffee Maker review. Today I will be covering the Bunn Thermofresh 10-cup Thermal Carafe Coffee Brewer. I would like with this review to have everyone who reads get a little more intimate with this machine an hopefully come to understand what this machine is about and what kind of consumer it was designed for.
This is a coffee maker from the coffee making gods that are Bunn, and because of this it has the signature coffee brewing speed that thrashes the competition hands down, there is no other coffee maker available that can match a Bunn for brewing speed. At just 3 minutes or less for the full 10-cup pot we don’t have to wait very long at all for our hot fresh coffee. The flavor of the coffee is also consistently of a very high quality.
The thermal carafe is also a very welcome addition to the feature set of this unit. I just don’t understand why coffee manufacturers continue to make machines with glass carafes and those infernal heating plates. When coffee is brewed fresh ad left on one of those contraptions for more than 10 minutes the freshness is dissolved and we are left with a disgusting burnt flavor to our coffee. One way around this would be to transfer the coffee to a thermos.. or build a machine with a thermal carafe! Thermal carafes keep our coffee hot and tasting fresh for hours on end.
The speed with which our coffee is brewed is fantastic but there are a couple of drawbacks to this system that I would like to try and detail here. The way that the Bunn BTX produces coffee so fast, is that it keeps a full 10-cup tank of water at 200 degrees all the time. This is possibly dangerous is you have small children around the house and it also can cut into your electricity bill some. If you wish to turn off the machine for whatever reason it will take approximately 12 minutes before you can brew coffee again, so a full 15 minute wait for our coffee. There is no auto on/off function here, which might seem like an over sight, but the Bunn machines were originally designed for commercial use so this is a trait from previous commercial models.
